How RTS Tactical’s Patent-Pending Boltless Viewport Sets a New Standard in Shield Design

When lives are on the line, there’s no room for weak points. Tactical shields are designed to be the last line of defense, but for decades one overlooked vulnerability has remained: the viewport bolts.

The Problem with Traditional Bolted Viewports

Historically, shield manufacturers secured viewports using a series of bolts or adhesives. On paper, this worked, but in a real gunfight and in intense conditions, those bolts represented a critical point of failure.

  • Not Rifle-Rated: Traditional bolts were rarely ballistic-rated, meaning a direct rifle hit could shatter or loosen the viewport, leaving the operator exposed.
  • Gaps and Weak Spots: Bolts and adhesives create seams, gaps, or inconsistencies, turning a shield into a patchwork of vulnerabilities.
  • Adhesive Breakdown: Over time, adhesives weaken under stress, heat, and field wear, degrading the integrity of the viewport.

In short: a shield could be rendered useless by a single well-placed shot.

The
RTS Tactical Solution: Patent-Pending Boltless Viewport System

RTS Tactical developed an industry-first answer: a boltless viewport system.

  • Zero Bolt Viewport System: Our system eliminates bolts entirely, removing the traditional weak spots.
  • No Gaps, No Blind Spots: The patent-pending click-in design creates a continuous, flush bond for superior clarity and durability.
  • Three Times Stronger Adhesive: Tested to outperform conventional adhesives by over 3x, ensuring uncompromised strength and structural integrity.
  • Battle-Tested Bolts: Field trials prove that the bolts on holding the handle and forearm cushion resists direct and angled impacts while maintaining integrity under pressure. Hardened RF1 bolts are rigorously field-tested from all angles (head-on, side, and 30-degree), to maintain uncompromised performance and integrity under impact.

Simply put, the boltless viewport closes a historic gap in shield protection.

Ballistic-Rated Bolts Where They Matter

While the viewport itself is bolt-free, certain shield components still require anchoring. That’s why RTS Tactical uses hardened RF1 rifle-rated bolts, tested from every angle; head-on, side, and 30-degrees. These bolts are designed not to fail under rifle fire, making them a trusted part of the system rather than a liability.

Shields That Feature This Innovation

Why It Matters

For operators, every second and every detail matters. By eliminating the viewport as a potential weak point, RTS Tactical shields give law enforcement and tactical teams the confidence to advance without hesitation.

We’re not just building stronger shields, we’re building shields that rethink and remove vulnerabilities that others have accepted as “normal.” That’s what innovation looks like.
